Artland

This post really should have gone up last year!  We took a trip to Jupiter Artland, a large estate containing sculptures commissioned for the owners.  Most of the artists work with the land in some way, or want to make comment on our relationship to place.

'A Forest' by Jim Lambie, with resident peacock admiring himself!

Beautiful piece of knitted fishing line in a Shetland pattern by artist Shane Waltener.

"Firmament" Antony Gormley.

Trips like these always open your eyes to the things we filter out, everyday beautiful objects and creatures.  I became very aware when walking through the landscape - taking in all of the textures, colours, plants and insects.  I couldn't stop photographing forms and pattern.

The pieces comment on so many aspects of the land and our relationship to it.  It was an overwhelming experience - it is a large estate and the works are generally large scale, so each one physically immerses you in the experience whilst you're still in a beautiful landscape.  It is a very different feeling to seeing art in a gallery.

Landscape with Gun and Tree, Cornelia Parker

Rivers - Tania Kovats (water collected from rivers all over the UK)
